Varrak's father is a familiar to a wizard, is still alive, and doesn't know about Varrak.
Varrak's mother did not kill the maiden. This was actually done by one of her druids who developed strong feelings for Varrak and had grown jealous of the maiden. This druid has been thoroughly dealt with since their actions caused Varrak to run away.
Varrak fell in love with the maiden without ever getting her name.
Aberberry sits in a
riparian area, nestled comfortably at the end of a pure flowing river. The woods northwest of the town is protected by Varrak's mother, though the inhabitants of Aberberry aren't aware of this. When Varrak left home the forest became hostile towards the inhabitants of the small farming town. They currently believe that it has been cursed.
